Reflection Blog Post

Overall I really enjoyed this class. My favorite project that I did this semester was creating the logo. I really enjoyed the creative freedom that the project gave us and I really enjoyed learning how to use Photoshop for image creation. I feel like I learned a lot of useful skills that I will be able to use throughout my life whether it be taking good pictures or editing photos and videos. I am striving to be an actuary in the data analytics field so I will be creating graphics and presenting them, the skills I learned in this class will be useful in my field so that I can credit work and not get fired for copyright. The course offered a sufficient introduction to the programs we used. I can not think of any other skills that would fit into a introductory course like this one without delving deeper into the programs. When I could not figure out how to do what I was trying to do in the programs I would just search and check out a couple of websites nothing I can specifically say was a good resource just finding helpful videos or step by step instructions. I really liked the course and felt like the course work was fair and was stimulating and made me learn new things. The projects did take a fair bit of time to do but there was not at any point where I felt frustrated that things were not working the way I intended them to. The course had a nice pace and each project felt rewarding upon completion. I had a lot of fun and am sure that I will be able to use the information I gained from the course throughout my days. Would recommend the course to people looking to learn the basics of adobe but would highly advise them not to purchase adobe themselves unless they need it for a whole year (cancellations fees are highway robbery).

Final Video

For my project I wanted to create a informational video that promotes some simple ways for to improve health. I wanted a grasping start, so I chose a time lapse video to show the time. The inspiration for this kind of video came from some videos that I have watched in the past of daily video vlogs that goes through their daily lives. I thought this style would fit into the one to two minute video time we were given. I wanted to show some easy and short workout and stretches that anyone could put into their daily routines to promote health. I started to think of some of the most beneficial activities to help get the body ready and came up with some very simple ones. This is by no means a perfect routine to follow for every person as everyone is different. This is just an overview or a basic template to help people think of other activities that they can do that are more suited to their needs. I wanted to make an interesting video, so I played around with the transitions. I feel like the transitions I did enhance the overall video and allows it to flow in such a way that is visually pleasing. I added some soft music to fill out the blank space in some sections as well as have a nice rhythmic undertone to the whole video which I found pleasing  All videos and pictures (except for one) shown in this draft are collected and shot by me so they may not be the best, but they are mine. The stretching silhouette was found online, and I thought it was a perfect fit into my video. I had to find the right settings so that my imports were not scaled weirdly when I did import them into premier this was the main software challenge I faced. I ended up just adjusting the scale so the whole video/picture were in the entire frame with nothing being cut out of view. Overall I enjoyed working on this project and think it turned out great.

I want to add some music or sounds to my video before the final is due, I couldn’t find any license free that I thought fit into the video so for now its pretty bland in the audio department. All videos and pictures shown in this draft are collected and shot by me so they may not be the best, but they are mine. That being said I had to find the right settings so that my imports were not scaled weirdly when I did import them into premier this was the main software challenge I faced.

Audio Final

I tried to create sort of a news story type piece that highlights the detriments of stretches that are commonly thought as good practice to do before workouts. This ties into my topic choice of fitness and is something I believe should be widely known to everyone as this was in my first blog posts. This is why I chose a news or article type style so that it comes off as an informative piece to give the air of a credible source and not just a made up story based on fiction. I was unsure to add the direct sources into the audio so I looked around and did some research and found most pieces like this just link off to the findings. I did a some research by looking at medical studies that prove what I state as fact so that it would be as true to the truth as possible without exaggerating to such a point that lets people know that stretching is not bad for you for everything, just particular warm ups are not beneficial towards some activities. In adobe audition I took the best sound bits of my recording of a gym atmosphere to really emphasize the fact that it is a gym. I then further edited the gym sounds to be at higher volume to make it easily discerned that they are weights to the best of my ability. I then put those points as my introduction and at the end of the piece. I tried to make the audio volume match throughout the entire voice segment so that it is pleasant to listen to with no high points or low points. Overall, I am pleased how this turned out and hope people found this informational and can use this in their daily lives.

Overall I think this is a decent piece and I just need to work on the actual story of the piece more so that it flows better and has useful information on what stretches are best for activities and give examples of some basic stretches. I am also not sure if my gym recording exemplifies the idea that it is in fact from a gym and that it is apparent to all listeners.

Illustrator Final

When I first started to theory craft ideas for my logo I started with basic ideas for fitness. I did not know if I wanted to go the food route or more of the working out for the logo. I decided to go for a more of a iconic route of fitness that being weight lifting. I wanted most people to understand the logo so I wanted something simplistic. For inspiration I looked at many different gym logos and found most had weights as a center focus and tried to make my logo similar. The creation of the draft was pretty simple, I liked how the hand was made in the tutorials and combined with the tools I learned in the pencil tutorial I was able to make a copy so that they were symmetric to each other by using the transform feature and reflecting the one hand. The same was done for the weights I created rectangles and then rounded them to look like weights. The feed back I received on my draft was very informative on some ideas that I could improve upon. Some of the ideas that I implemented on my final logo was the gradient on the bar itself to make the bar look more realistic. The second was fixing the text to be more lined up and symmetric to be visually appealing. My primary revision was the change to the standard weights from the old cartoon ball weights. I felt like this change makes the logo more rounded. The comments from my peers really helped with the creation for my final logo. It allowed me to get an understanding on where my logo was strong and where it was weak. Overall I am satisfied with the end result and think my final logo is much more refined and a better representation for my topic,
