Illustrator draft

When I first started to theory craft ideas for my logo I started with basic ideas for fitness. I did not know if i wanted to go the food route or more of the working out for the logo. I decided to go for a more of a iconic route of fitness that being weight lifting. I wanted most people to understand the logo so I wanted something simplistic. That being said I went with a cartoonist representation of the big ball weights so that most people could easily recognize the logo. For inspiration I looked at many different gym logos and found most had weights as a center focus and tried to make my logo similar. The creation of this draft was pretty simple, I liked how the hand was made in the tutorials and combined with the tools I learned in the pencil tutorial I was able to make a copy so that they were symmetric to each other by using the transform feature and reflecting the one hand. I wanted to add some text into the logo and felt like the use of lettering into the logo could work. I am thinking of adding a border around the image to make it feel more like a badge or sign. As this is a draft this is still a very basic design in which I want to elaborate on to be more unique and better standing out amongst the vast many of other logo’s. I am still getting familiar with Illustrator and want to try and get my logo to look a lot more professional then as it stands. Right now I feel that my logo is pretty one dimensional in look and color.

  1. I really like your overall idea of what you what your audience to know of what your logo is suppose to represent. At first glance I did think of weights with this logo and I do agree that your logo looks a bit one dimensional overall. I think adding a gradient to the bar could really change the aspect of the bar and making the fist going upwards in a lifting motion could change that dimensional barrier. However the text and font you used I really like the one you used. Color wise I think the whole logo overall should have a gradient to really make it stand out.

  2. Initially looking at your logo draft, I really liked the concept and composition of the logo. I also liked how symmetrical and clean it looks, as well as the typography that you used. One suggestion that I have would be to maybe try changing the circles at both ends of the weight to rectangles with rounded corners. For me that would help register from a first glance that it is a weight. Another suggestion I have would to maybe make the spaces in between the fingers a bit smaller or change it so you just have the outlines of the hands and not the solid grey fill. But overall it is a really nice draft!

  3. Your post/blog is great! I really like how creative and unique your project is. As for critiques, I think you could make sure your letters are all at the same height, so they are evenly dispersed across the logo. I also think you could shape the thumbs up a little more, so they look even and more natural! Other than that, I like your design and think it is really well put together.

  4. Reading the criticisms of my peers has brought a lot of ideas on how to make my logo better. I like the idea Emily mention with changing the weights to the big iconic triangular weights and all the ideas for bettering the text on the logo was very informative. I am going to try a few different ideas to make the text better for viewing and just overall more creative. Using the feedback, I feel like I will be better equipped to make a better logo for my final draft. All that is left to do is work on my logo and to get it to the finalization the hardest task will be to make the hands look more realistic in a natural way of grabbing the weights. As well as making the bar having a gradient so that it looks more realistic.
